Kollegal: Home Kalon Sonam Topgyal Khorlatsang of the Department of Home inaugurated the 23rd Gyalyum Chenmo Memorial Gold Cup (GCMGC) football tournament at Kollegal Dhondenling Tibetan settlement football ground on 8 April 2017.
Other dignitaries at the inaugural ceremony include Trulku Pema Tamding, Mr Chophel Thupten, Chief Representative Officer, Mr Ngawang Phegyal, former Tibetan Chief Justice Commissioner and Mr Jigmey Jugney, Former Member of Tibetan Parliament.
Mr Passang Dorjee, the new President of the Tibetan National Sports Association (TNSA) delivered the introductory remarks and informed that the football matches will be live telecast through youtube and urged the players to play fair, without creating any untoward incident.
The settlement officer Mr Thupten Tsering informed that the football pitch was successfully constructed with the financial help of Department of Health under Kashag’s vision for sustenance of Tibetan settlements and to keep the youth engaged in physical activity. He thanked the donors and supporters.
Home Kalon in his address said, “The aim and objective for organising the GCM football tournament is to divert the attention of youngsters from drugs and substance abuse, at the same time it enables the youth towards a healthy fit body.”
Kalon urged the players to play fair and in spirit of game and sportsmanship. “Football is a team game and especially this game is dedicated in memory of late great mother of His Holiness the Dalai lama, who symbolises warm heartedness, love and compassion, therefore the players should develop team spirit and mutual respect for opponent players.”
Later Kalon presented an appreciation memento to the settlement officer from TNSA as a mark of remembrance of the 23rd GCM football tournament.
In the morning, Kalon visited the settlement representative office and the cooperative society office, His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s residence palace, public gathering stage, the new local Tibetan shrine building and the Kunkyap Dophenling Hospital. Kalon interacted with the respective heads of the section and concerned persons to get an overview of the prevailing situation.
The next day on 9 April, Kalon addressed the Dhondenling public on the strategic policies and projects set in motion by the 15th Kashag under its five-fifty strategy.
In his address, Kalon spoke on the Tibetan Rehabilitation policy 2014 formulated by the Government of India, its process and significance. “This important legal documents lays foundation for sustenance of the settlements, whereby it clearly mentions that the Tibetan refugees can avail centre and state schemes at par with Indians. Also, the implementation of policy in respective sate with signing of land lease agreement of Mundgod and Hunsur Tibetan settlement,” he noted.
Under Kashag’s five fifty strategy, CTA officials, settlement officers and Tibetan school educators will be provided series of leadership and capacity building trainings to better understand the community needs and help improve their redressal mechanism.
“With sustenance of the settlement, Integrated settlement development project (ISDP) workshop will be held in three zones and participatory needs assessment activity will be conducted inorder to make vaible and sustainable projects,” said Kalon
Kalon also emphasised on the importance of education, preservation of Tibetan culture and identity, importance of good health.
He further informed on CTA’s Budget, women empowerment policy and Tibetan women’s day, CTA’s Tibet advocacy campaign year 2017 and reforms in the Tibetan electoral rules.
On 11 April, Kalon left for Mundgod Tibetan settlement.
