Dharamshala: Tibetan Career Centre (TCC), a unit of Youth Empowerment Support, DoH, organised a month long workshop on Career Awareness at Tibetan Settlements and educational institution based in south India. The program was conducted by Head Consultant, Mr Gelek Namgyal and Counsellor cum placement officer, Ms Jigme Dhamdol from 4 February till the end of February, 2017.

The target group for the program was Tibetan youth, parents and schools around Tibetan Settlements. The primary objectives of the program are:

(i) To create awareness about the opportunities of skills trainings in Tibetan community and the scopes of vocational trainings given.

(ii) To create awareness about the importance of parental counseling in children’s life and career guidance to school children.

iii) To conduct workshop on employability skills like resume building, interview skills, communication and etc.

The program covered Kollegal Dhondenling, Hunsur Rabgyeling, Lugsam Bylakuppe, Dickyi Larsoe Bylakuppe, Golathala Bylakuppe, Chawkur Bylakuppe, ISTL Neelamangala Bangalore. Mondgud Doegueling. Educational institution covered are CST Kollegal, CST Bylakuppe, CST Hunsur, CVP Bylakuppe, Dalai Lama Institute for Higher education and TCV Bylakuppe.

In total 972 participated in this program. Among them 234 are school children.

The workshop was great success as the participants showed a huge interest and took active participation in the program. Participants voiced similar request calling for more such workshops in their settlements in coming years.

They also conducted individual counseling and group counseling on topics such as Scholarship & stream choice, and vocational courses, also discussed on Goat Setting to Life Skills etc.

Both counselors conducted two days’ workshop Employability skills at ISTL and Dalai Lama Institute for Higher education.
