Dharamshala: A group of former security guards of His Holiness the Dalai Lama on Wednesday offered a long life prayer to the Tibetan spiritual leader at the Tibetan leader’s private office and residence on 15 March 2017.

The octogenarian Tibetan leader affirmed that he’d continue to live for over hundred years based on the unwavering faith and prayers offered by his followers. “Today you have offered this long life prayer based on the wish-fulfilling White Tara, which I practice daily. So, it will definitely benefit this life. Personally, I also pray and hope to live for the next twenty years or more. Tibetans as well as my friends around the world, including my Chinese friends have showered me with their genuine friendship and love. I am hopeful that the spiritual bond as well as the friendship between us will definitely benefit this life. I would like to thank you all.”

“You have expressed unwavering faith and prayers for my long life through these vows. These are not just empty pledges but your actual feelings. I thank you all,” His Holiness told the men and women who had served as security guards for him for years.

Along with the prayer, the former bodyguards also offered their solemn vows to uphold and fulfill the wishes of the Tibetan leader; to extend their support to the Middle Way Approach; not to associate with the controversial Dholgyal related activities and to continue to ensure the security of His Holiness the Dalai Lama during his visits around the world.

A representative of the organising committee said that every member of the group expressed happiness since His Holiness acknowledged and accepted all the pledges.

The long life prayer offering was organised by over 300 former members of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s security team and the ceremony was led by Thomtog Rinpoche, the abbot of Namgyal Monastery.

Tibetans all around the world organise long life prayer ceremonies for their spiritual leader, His Holiness the Dalai Lama to express their gratitude and to receive his teachings and blessing over a long time.
