VIRGINIA: The Office of Tibet based in Washington DC along with the Capital Area Tibetan Association organised a reception for Chinese Tibet supporters from DC, Virginia and Maryland areas. These include Chinese writers, intellectuals, scholars, democracy activists and youth organistaion members.

Prominent among the guests were activist Mr Chen Guangcheng, Zhao Xiyeng, Wi Xing ren, and Mr Matteo Meccaci, Mr Bhuching K Tsering and Ms Tenchoe Gyatso from International Campaign for Tibet (ICT). At least two hundred people including the local Tibetan community took part in the reception.

The Chinese guests expressed their heartfelt respect to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. They said that His Holiness the Dalai Lama is not only a leader of the Tibetan people but also a venerable guide and adviser to the Chinese people and when His Holiness is saddened, the Chinese people feel sad too.

They also remarked that if His Holiness the Dalai Lama were able to return to Tibet, the Tibet issue would be resolved peacefully. Not only Tibet, the issues afflicting China currently would be also resolved within a short time, they declared.

They also explained that the Middle Way Approach is not a separatist activity and urged fellow Chinese to understand the issue of Tibet and explain it to their friends, family and co-workers.

The cultural performances were presented by former members of Tibetan Institute of Performing Arts who traveled all the way from New York City to Virginia. The cultural presentation was followed by a dinner.
