PRETORIA: Mr Ngodup Dorjee, the new Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama formally took charge of Office of Tibet, South Africa in the morning of 24 December 2016 from outgoing Representative Ms Nangsa Chodon at a brief traditional ceremony.

The handing over ceremony took place in the presence of Mr Sonam Norbu Dagpo, Secretary of the Department of International Relations, who was appointed to oversee the handing and taking over of the Office.

A short ceremony was held with offering of scarves to the portrait of His Holiness the Dalai Lama by the new and outgoing Representatives. The outgoing Representative and Mr Dagpo offered scarves and congratulated the new Representative. He also thanked Ms Nangsa Chodon for her dedicated service. This was followed by serving Tibetan tea and ceremonial sweet rice.

Mr Ngodup Dorjee was the former Secretary of Social and Resource Development Fund (SARD), Finance Department. Ms Nangsa Chodon has been appointed as the Secretary of the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration.
