DHARAMSHALA: His Holiness the Dalai Lama arrived in Bodh Gaya this afternoon to conduct the 34th Kalachakra Initiation, one of the largest Buddhist ceremony scheduled to begin from 2 – 14 January 2017.

On his arrival at the Jayaprakash Narayan International Airport in Patna, enroute to Bodh Gaya, His Holiness was received by the Chief Minister of Bihar, Shri Nitish Kumar.

The Tibetan spiritual leader and the Chief Minister took part in a tree-planting ceremony at Buddha Smriti Park in Patna. The Buddha Smriti Park was inaugurated by His Holiness the Dalai Lama in 2010.

His Holiness was then received by Magadh range DIG Saurav Kumar, district magistrate Kumar Ravi, SSP Sarima Malik and city SP Awakash Kumar on at the Gaya Airport.

Hundreds of Tibetan Buddhists and foreigners flooded the streets of Bodh Gaya to welcome the Tibetan spiritual leader.

The tentative schedule for the 34th Kalachakra is as follows:

2 – 4 January 2017 – Kalachakra Ritual Preparation

5 – 8 January 2017 – Kalachakra Preliminary Teachings

9 January 2017  – Kalachakra Ritual and Offering Dance

10 January 2017 – Students Preparation (Preliminary Initiation)

11 – 13 January 2017 – Kalachakra Initiation

14 January 2017 – Long Life Empowerment for the Public and Long Life Ceremony for His Holiness
