DHARAMSHALA: To strengthen primary education of Tibetan children, the Department of Education, Central Tibetan Administration, organised a workshop for math teachers of Tibetan primary schools in northeast India from 26 – 28 February. The workshop was held at the community hall of the Tibetan settlement in Sonada, West Bengal.

The objective of the workshop was to familiarise Tibetan teachers on the new mathematics textbook drafted by the education department as per the guidelines provided in the Basic Education Policy of the Central Tibetan Administration. The two mathematics textbook editors from Education department and Ms Trinley Palmo, math teacher from UPPER TCV School presided over the three-day workshop.

The two editors from the education department explained the process of drafting and the wordings of the new textbook, while Ms Trinley Palmo emphasised techniques and the importance of using teaching aids in the classroom.

Teachers from twelve Tibetan schools namely Darjeeling, Sonada, Ravangla, Kalimpong, Orissa, Bandhara, Mainpat, Miao, Tezu, Tenzingang, Pokribong and Shillong took part in the workshop.
