DHARAMSHALA: Mr. Tashi Phuntsok, the Information Secretary of the Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) yesterday attended the ‘Tibet Our Country Project Day’ at TCV Suja.

The occasion was especially marked as a celebratory of His Holiness’ 80th birthday dedicating to the bounteous contributions made by His Holiness the Dalai Lama for Tibet and for the world at large.

Addressing the gathering, the chief guest Mr. Tashi Phuntsok elaborated on the three commitments of His Holiness the Dalai Lama; promotion of human values, promotion of religious harmony and preservation of Tibet’s Buddhist culture.

Talking about the unity and harmony amongst the different sects of religion in Buddhism, the Secretary said that His Holiness has been an ultimate catalyst. He further said that the existence of the Central Tibetan Administration and the survival of Tibet issue owe its gratitude to His Holiness the Dalai Lama. He also mentioned that His Holiness, at the tender age of 16 has shouldered the overall responsibility of Tibet till date.

“His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s endless work for the universal peace and harmony have been recognized and impressively appreciated by the people across the world in forms of various notable awards. Nobel Peace Prize in 1989, US Congressional Gold Medal in 2007, The Templeton Prize in 2012 etc. are a few of the many prestigious awards bestowed upon His Holiness,” he added.

Following the inaugural session, the chief guest along with other dignitaries were escorted to the presentations prepared by the school children.

In the afternoon, the Tibet Museum of the DIIR had an exhibition on the brief biography, three commitments and accomplishments of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.

The project is one-day program organized annually in all the TCV and THF schools aiming to stimulate the school children to work on Tibet’s history and the present scenario. The students pick their topics and present it through speeches, modals, quizzes etc.
