The meeting to formalise the textbook underway.

DHARAMSHALA: The Academic Council of the Department of Education held a three-day meeting from 18- 20 September at the Nyatri hall, Gangchen Kyishong to formalize Tibetan language textbooks for the weekend language class of Tibetan children in North America. The textbooks are for Kindergarten to class II.

The draft textbook was edited by Nangsel Tenzin Norbu with assistance from Kelsang Choedon, Lobsang Tsering and Sangey Dolma under the supervision of the Office of Tibet, North Ameirca.

The meeting to formalise the textbook was attended by officials from the education department including Mr. Tsering Samdup, Mr. Karma Monlam, Mr. Sonam Sangpo, Mr. Gedun Dhonyoe, Mr. Palden Dorjee, and Mr. Tashi Dorjee. Dr. Chok Tsenzin Monlam from the Library of Tibetan Works and Archives and Mr. Samdup, a Tibetan language teacher from Petoen School was also present at the meeting.

The formalisation of textbooks for Class III, Class IV and Class V of the weekend school are also in the pipeline.

The weekend Tibetan language school for Tibetan children born and raised in the west, is aimed to immerse Tibetan children in the tradition of Tibetan culture, language, and heritage on a weekly basis in order to instill in them a strong sense of their Tibetan roots and identity.
