Home Kalon Dolma Gyari inaugurating the Tibet guest house at Dalhousie.

DALHOUSIE: Ms. Dolma Gyari, Kalon for the Department of Home, Central Tibetan Administration inaugurated the Tibet Guest House at Dalhousie on 4 September 2015 as the Chief Guest; also present were the sponsor Mr. Franco Spinelli and Prof. Chodup Tchiring Lama of Eco Himal Foundation, Switzerland.

The Settlement officer Mr. Tsewang Phuntsok welcomed the dignitaries and thanked the sponsors for the gracious support in realisation of the Guest House project. He spoke on the background of the Tibetan Refugee Handicraft Centre and gave a brief report. The Guest House has 12 rooms, one restaurant and a shop.

Prof. Chodup Lama speaking on the inauguration ceremony said that this project is intend to realize a structure that can support the development of tourism in the Tibetan refugee camp of Dalhousie, providing a Guest House for tourists visiting Dalhousie and the same time promote the Tibetan refugee camp and buy local crafts. The facility, which will be financially independent, would employ people favouring the occupation of the inhabitants of the refugee camp Phuntsokling.

Kalon highlighted that through this project, it is aimed to create a business that can help the Tibetan community of Dalhousie to create new job opportunities, and with the construction of a “guest house” will be able to employ several people who cooks, waiters, cleaning personnel, administrative staff, etc thereby able to achieve a self-reliant community. She stressed on the maintenance and proper administration of the guest house to tap on the tourism industry.

She also informed on the Department of Home’s revolving fund loan (under YES) and skills training course and encouraged the youths to avail the schemes so that they could be self-reliant.

Later in the afternoon, the Kalon met with the community people, heard their grievances and provided guidance. After that visited the different parts of the settlement where the settlers are living.
