DHARAMSHALA: Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay, the democratically elected political leader of the Tibetan people, left Dharamshala yesterday for a seven-day visit to the United States and Canada.
During his visit to the United States, Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay will attend a dialogue with Chinese scholars and students in Washington DC on 12 May 2015. The dialogue is organised by Initiatives for China, a global grassroots level movement dedicated to advancing a peaceful transition to democracy in China.
Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay was specially invited by Dr. Yang Jianli, founder and President of Initiatives for China, to build mutual trust and cooperation between the Chinese communities worldwide and the Tibetan people.
Sikyong will also address the ongoing diplomacy training for officials of the Central Tibetan Administration’s various offices of Tibet in Washington DC.
Following his visit to Washington, Sikyong Dr. Lobsang Sangay will leave for Toronto city in Canada where he will attend a gala dinner with dignitaries and important officials of the country. He will also meet the local Tibetan community in Toronto for a public address.
Upon his return from Toronto, Sikyong will visit New York City and meet with officials and dignitaries in the city.
He will return to India on 18 May and will be back in Dharamshala on 20 May.
