DHARAMSHALA: Former Speaker of the US House of Representatives, Ms. Nancy Pelosi, attended the commemoration of the 56th Tibetan National Uprising Day function in San Francisco, US. Over a hundred Tibetans and Tibet supporters gathered in front of the San Francisco city hall to mark the event.

Expressing her support and solidarity with the Tibetan people, she said: “Our cause is securing the human rights and human dignity of the people of Tibet. To us, it is inevitable that Tibetans will be able to secure their rights and dignity. To the Chinese it is inconceivable that such a thing will happen. We have to bridge the distance between what is inconceivable to the Chinese and the inevitable to us.”

Ms. Pelosi also told the gathering “the situation in Tibet is a challenge to the conscience of the world.”

Mr. Kaydor Aukartsang, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to North America, was also present at the event.

Nancy Patricia D’Alesandro Pelosi is the Minority Leader of the United States House of Representatives and served as the 60th Speaker of the United States House of Representatives from 2007 to 2011.
