PRETORIA: Ms. Nangsa Choedon, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in South Africa attended a meeting with members of the South African Parliament from the Inkatha Freedom Party ( IFP ) at Cape town, South Africa on 30 October.
The meeting was held as per the request of the Office of Tibet to update information regarding the current situation inside Tibet to the new MPs of the South African Parliament.
Ms. Nangsa Choedon met Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, President of IFP, Mr. Narend Singh, Chief Whip of Caucus, Mr. Mkhuleko Hlengwa, Chairperson, and a few other MPs from the Inkatha Freedom Party.
During their meeting, Ms. Nangsa Choedon apprised the members of parliament about the current grim situation prevailing inside Tibet and the wave of self-immolation protests that took place as a result of the Chinese government’s repressive policies.
She explained His Holiness the Dalai Lama and the Central Tibetan Administration’s continued efforts to resolve the Tibet issue through dialogue with the Chinese government. She also distributed documents related to the Middle Way Approach of the Central Tibetan Administration during the meeting.
Ms. Nangsa Choedon expressed her deep condolences to the passing away of Dr. Mario Ambrosini, IFP parliamentarian and a long time supporter of Tibet.
She also thanked all the parliamentarians for their support towards the press release issued by the Office of Tibet against the baseless statements made by the South African Communist Party regarding the visa issue of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
Representative Nangsa Choedon informed the members of parliament about the devolution of political authority by His Holiness the Dalai Lama to an elected Tibetan leadership since 2011.
During her visit to Cape Town, she also met various Tibet supporters including Niki De Quelen, Mrs. Pauline Todd, Ms. Sandra, Mr. Ziggy Heuver and Mr. Adam Salmon.
