DHARAMSHALA: A Tibetan nun set herself on fire to protest against the Chinese government’s repressive policies in Tibet pushing the total self-immolation toll to 129.

“A Tibetan nun self-immolated around 3 pm Saturday (29 March) while circumambulating the Ba Choede monastery in Bathang county in Karze prefecture (incorporated into China’s Sichuan Province). Nearby Tibetans who witnessed the incident tried to douse the fire and sent her to a hospital,” said Bawa Kalsang Gyaltsen, a member of the Tibetan Parliament in Exile.

The name and age of the nun was not immediately known as the Chinese authorities cut communications lines, he said.

The self-immolators have called for the return of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Tibet and freedom for Tibetans.
