DHARAMSHALA: The President of the Federal Parliament of Switzerland, Ms. Maya Graf, will receive His Holiness the Dalai Lama in the Parliament building on 16 April.

“The meeting will take place during the special session in the spirit of the Swiss tradition of openness and hospitality. As the spiritual leader of the Tibetan Buddhism, His Holiness the Dalai Lama visits regularly the approximately 4,000 Tibetans living in Switzerland. He is also a globally known personality whose dedication has been recognised with the Nobel Peace Prize in 1989,” a press release issued by the Swiss Federal Parliament said.

Dr Lobsang Sangay, Sikyong or the democratically-elected political leader of Tibetan people, earlier met Ms. Graf in Bern, Switzerland, during his visit there in November 2011. He sent a congratulatory message to Ms. Graf on her election to the President of the Federal Parliament of Switzerland this January.

Ms Graf was part of a four-member delegation of the Swiss Parliamentary Group for Tibet that visited Dharamsala from 26-28 March 2003 at the invitation of the Assembly of the Tibetan People’s Deputies (Tibetan Parliament in Exile). The delegation led by its President Mr. Mario Fehr, said during the visit that they got a first hand understanding of the Tibetan situation and the workings of its democratic institutions in exile.
