VILNIUS: Mr Thubten Samdup, His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s representative for Northern Europe and The Baltic States visited Vilnius, the capital of Lithuania on 13-15 March. The visit aimed to discuss the upcoming visit to Lithuania in June of Dr Lobsang Sangay, Sikyong or the democratically-elected political leader of the Tibetan people, and Tibet’s spiritual leader His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit in September.

Representative Thubten Samdup met with members of Lithuanian Parliament, and representatives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on 14 March. They discussed the opportunities for Sikyong Lobsang Sangay and His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s visit to Lithuania. The leader of Tibet support group, Dalia Kuodytė, and other members of Lithuanian Parliament had expressed their wish to invite the Tibetan leaders to visit Vilnius this year.

On 25 March Mr Thubten visited the municipality of Vilnius where he met with the Mayor of Lithuania’s capital, A. Zuokas. The mayor expressed his wish to support the Tibetan people and promised to put all efforts required into making the third visit of His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Lithuania possible.

The details of the visits of Sikyong Dr Lobsang Sangay and His Holiness the Dalai Lama to Lithuania are now being discussed and arranged.

During this visit Mr Thubten also met with the Lithuanian Buddhist community, Tibet support groups and media representatives.
