DHARAMSHALA: Hundreds of Chinese police raided a Tibetan monastery in Yushul in eastern Tibet on 1 September.
The police raided monastic quarters and took away five monks from Zilkar monastery in Yushul in eastern Tibet. Phone lines and electricity were cut off during the clampdown.
The arrested monks were Sonam Sherab 45, Lobsang Jinpa 30, Tsultrim Kelsang 25, Ngawang Monlam, 30, and Sonam Ignyen, 44.
Zilkar monastery has condemned the illegal arrest and beating of its monks, and demanded their immediate release.
