DHARAMSHALA: Joint Secretary Gonpo Tashi Angeytsang, serving as the settlement officer of Orissa Phuntsokling settlement, passed away due to illness on 28 August at a hospital in Bangalore. He was 54.
Mr Gonpo Tashi was born on 6 July 1957 at Nangchen, Kham in eastern Tibet. His family came into exile in 1959. He is an alumnus of Central School for Tibetan, Shimla.
He has served the Central Tibetan Administration for over 22 years since his appointment on probation as an accountant at a school for newly-arrived Tibetans in Bir on 22 January 1988. He was later transferred to the department of Health.
In February 1992, he was appointed as the office secretary at the Tibetan welfare office in Kullu. He was promoted to the post of office superintendent and was transferred to the department of home the next year.
He worked as section officer at Bomdila Tibetan welfare office in 1997. In 1999, he was promoted to the post of under secretary and transferred to Bhandara Tibetan settlement as the secretary of Tibetan co-operative society.
He became deputy secretary in 2002 and transferred in 2004 to Tibetan settlement at Pokhra, Nepal, as the settlement officer. He was transferred to the Office of Tibet, Nepal based in Kathmandu in 2006. In 2007, he was appointed as the settlement officer of the Tibetan settlement in Kathmandu and Phakshing.
He served as settlement officer in Kullu in 2008. In 2010, he was promoted to the post of Joint Secretary and appointed as settlement officer of Lugsum Samdupling Tibetan settlement in Bylakuppe.
The Kashag has expressed its deep sadness and condolences at the passing of Angeytsang Gonpo Tashi. As a mark of respect and solidarity, the Central Tibetan Administration held a prayer service in the afternoon, following which all the offices remained closed.
