MONTREAL: Apart from visiting City Hall of Montreal, Kalon Dolma Gyari paid a visit to the Manjushri Buddhist Centre, which is the primary temple for the Tibetans in Montreal and met Khensur Rinpoche and his attendant.
Later that evening, Kalon had a meeting with the local Tibetan community members where she spoke on numerous important subjects, including the cases of self-immolation in Tibet, resettlement project in Canada, 2nd Special General Meeting in Dharamsala in September 2012, significance of celebrating 8 August to mark the first anniversary of Kalon Tripa Dr Lobsang Sangay in office since he took over the political responsibility from His Holiness the Dalai Lama, and bridging closer relationship between Tibetan settlements in India with Tibetan associations and communities in the West to render economic and social assistance to the former.
On the morning of 12 July, Kalon and the executive members of the Tibetan Cultural Association of Quebec had a meeting with two key political advisors for Kathleen Weil, the Minister of Immigration and Cultural Communities of Quebec. Various immigration and resettlement matters were discussed.
Later at the working luncheon courtesy: (OM restaurant), all had an in-depth discussion on various matters including planning of the immigration and resettlement efforts in Quebec. Carole Samdup, the new director of Canada Tibet Committee and Marijo Demers, a leading member of the Ad hoc Committee of Immigration and Resettlement Project in Quebec, were also present.
The president of the Tibetan Association, Mr Tashi Wangyal, expressed community’s happiness and support for the existing federal policy act for the resettlement programme.
