DHARAMSHALA: Home Kalon Dolma Gyari today felicitated Mr Steve Killelea, founder and chairman of The Charitable Foundation, Australia, who is involved in supporting the Tibetan community in agricultural development and resettlement programmes.
The Charitable Foundation, founded in 2001, provides relief and financial aid to countries around the globe, especially in Africa and South-East Asia.
The foundation has also provided more than 46 million rupees worth of financial aid towards the Central Tibetan Administration for agricultural development and resettlement programmes for the Tibetan refugees in India.
Speaking at the felicitation ceremony, Kalon Dolma Gyari expressed the Tibetan people’s heartfelt gratitude to Mr Killelea and said due to Mr Killelea and family’s contribution, the economic condition of hundreds of Tibetan families across India have improved.
She also presented Mr Killelea with souvenirs including a statue of Buddha personally blessed by His Holiness the Dalai Lama as a token of gratitude and requested him to continue his support for the Tibetan people.
Mr Killelea said his foundation’s main aim is to work towards the eradication of poverty and to spread the message of love and peace around the world.
He said he derives the inspiration to work for peace from His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s non-violent efforts to bring global harmony.
The Charitable Foundation has been providing financial and agricultural aid to the Tibetan people since 2005. It started its association with the Department of Home through Mr Tenzin Phuntsok Atisha, the then Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Australia.
