Tibet Support Groups Observed 53rd Tibetan National Uprising Day

10th March, 2012: On the occasion of the 53rd Tibetan National Uprising Day, Antarashtriya Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Samiti, Meerut organized a seminar on the Topic “Importance of Tibet’s Independence” at IIMT Group of Colleges, Meerut.

Around 200 participants comprising of teachers, students, faculty members and Tibet supporters took part in the seminar to commemorate the Tibetan National Uprising Day of 1959 in Tibet.

Dr. Anand Kumar, National Co-Convener, Core Group for Tibetan Cause was invited as Chief Guest to address the participants. He said that today marks the 53rd Tibetan National Uprising Day, when Tibetans from all the three provinces (U-Tsang, Kham & Amdo) gathered at Lhasa city to protest against Communist China’s military march into Tibet.  He also spoke on Human Rights violation in Tibet, Chinese military incursion to North Indian states of Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir, as well as on  Ecological & Environment destruction, dumping of nuclear waste in Tibet etc.

He said that there is not a single matter which is being discussed on the issue of Tibet and Chinese infringement into Indian Border states in the Parliament. We need to raise our voice and concern for our Tibetan brothers and sisters by organizing seminars, workshop, Dharna, protest, peace march and to form Tibet support groups throughout India to pressurize the government to take a necessary action. He said that today, the importance of an independent Tibet is also in the interest of India and Indian people. He further suggested the participating teachers to form a “Teacher support groups for Tibet” in the struggle of Tibet freedom. He even said that Tibetans in Tibet are taking extreme actions such as the 26 Tibetans who have self immolated since 2009.

Shri. Ajay Mittal, Editor,  Rashtriya Dev Saptahik, was invited as the guest of honor to address the gathering; he spoke on the long cherished India Tibet relationship in respect of historical aspect, religion, culture and language.

The other guest present on the day was Rtd. Maj. General Dr. Vijendra Singh, who spoke on Chinese military incursion to Himachal Pradesh, Arunachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir. It is very sad to say that our government’s stand on the Chinese incursion had always disheartened our defence fellows.

Mr. Tenzin Norbu, Coordinator, India Tibet Coordination Office read out the statement of Kalon Tripa, Dr. Lobsang Sangay on the 53rd anniversary of the Tibetan National Uprising Day and urged Indian friends to support the Tibet cause.

Lastly, Shri K.B.Bakshi, President Antarashtriya Bharat Tibbat Sahyog Samiti, Meerut presented a memento to the entire guest.

India Tibet Coordination Office based in New Delhi distributed Tibet related books to the participants.
