DHARAMSHALA: Kelsang Tragyaltsang, also known as Gonkar, 42, have been sentenced to 3 years in prison by a local court in Mianyang area, Sichuan province after being detained for nine months, reports say.

Kalsang was arrested last year for taking part in protests following Lobsang Phuntsok’s self-immolation in March 2011. His family and friends were denied visits during his detention.

Kelsang hails from Tragyaltsang household in Tangwama, Trotsik township, Ngaba county in eastern Tibet.

Reports also say that, Kirti monk Lobsang Tashi, 26, was arrested for trying to disseminate information abroad by officers from the Sichuan provincial State Security Bureau in November 2011. His exact whereabouts is currently unknown but is presumed to be detained in Chengdu.
