“I have heard that there are around three hundred million Buddhists in China and that the number is increasing,”   said His Holiness referring to the growing interest in Tibetan Buddhism in Mainland China.

“Tibetans and Chinese are both disciples of the Buddha. The Chinese with its huge population and ancient wisdom would help the world a lot if they focus on the teachings of the Buddha,” His Holiness said.

His Holiness said he had been meeting with intellectuals and students from Mainland China on various occasions and added that they show a growing understanding of the Tibet issue.

His Holiness also asserted that the Tibet issue can be solved through the Middle Way Policy which seeks for a genuine autonomy for Tibet within the constitutional framework of the People’s Republic of China.

His Holiness the Dalai Lama is currently in Bodh Gaya for the Kalachakra initiations which saw a huge turnout of Chinese devotees from Mainland China, Taiwan, Singapore as well as Tibetans from Tibet.

Huge numbers of Buddhists from Himalayan regions like Lahaul and Spiti in Himachal Pradesh, Ladakh, Sikkim and Nepal are also in attendance.

In total, more than 100,000 people have gathered at Bodh Gaya for the 10-day Kalachakra initiations, which had already begun from 1 January.
