Taipei: Mrs.Youdon Aukatsang, a member of the Tibetan Parliament, met with the Tibetan community during her personal visit to Taiwan. The informal meeting was organised by the Office of Tibet in Taipei on 7 August.
His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s Representative Mr Dawa Tsering introduced Chithue Youdon Aukatsang to a gathering of more than 35 Tibetans and he also briefed about the Tibetans and Tibet support groups based in Taiwan.
Mr. Dachompa, the President of Tibetan Association, thanked Mrs Aukatsang for her interest in meeting with Tibetans in Taiwan during her private holiday. He requested her to address the gathering on the recent developments within the Central Tibetan Administration and about the amendments that have been made to the Charter of Tibetans in exile.
Mrs. Aukatsang explained to the gathering on the process of devolution of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s administrative and political powers to the democratically elected leadership of the Central Tibetan Administration. She also clarified doubts of many Tibetans over the change of the name into Central Tibetan Administration. Both Mr. Dawa Tsering and Mrs. Aukatsang gave detailed answers to some of the questions raised by Tibetans on different topics to help them better understand the issues involved.
Mrs Aukatsang spoke on the significance of Chatrel (Tibetan Green Book Contribution) and the rights and duties of the Tibetan people. She also appealed to all the Tibetans to pay their annual voluntary contribution, emphasising it as the duty of the Tibetan people to support their administration. She called on the Tibetans to remain united for the cause of Tibet and Tibetan people.
Later in the afternoon, the members of the Chinese-Tibetan Association of Taiwan held a meeting in the Representative’s office. The meeting was the first of the working committee meeting after the association’s formal registration. The members, including three University Professors, students and all the members of Tibetan Association, have attended the meeting. It discussed future action plans and activities of the association.
