English Language Workshop for Middle School Teachers Underway in Delhi

The
Department of Education (DOE) of the Central Tibetan Administration
inaugurated the English language workshop for middle school teachers
being conducted at the Training Wing of CTSA in Delhi from 25 – 29
April. 
NEW
DELHI: Twenty-eight teachers from Sambhota Tibetan Schools Society,
Tibetan Children’s Village School, Tibetan Homes Foundation and Central
Tibetan Schools Administration-run schools are attending the workshop.  
Presently,
the instruction of all subjects up to primary level are taught in
Tibetan medium in Tibetan schools in India. However, the medium of
instruction from middle school level onwards continues to be English.
The DOE has decided to give the English language workshop for middle
school teachers in order to strengthen the teaching and learning skills
of both the teachers and the taught. 
Ms
Neelam Kulshreshtha and Dr Savita Bahl, English lecturers in the
Directorate of Education, Delhi, who are also associated with NCERT,
SCERT and CBSE, are the main resource persons.
 
The
teachers will be given hands on training covering topics on developing
listening, speaking, reading and writing skills; starting and finishing
a lesson; pronunciation and vocabulary enrichment; asking questions and
eliciting; giving instructions and correcting learners and general
classroom management. Dr R.P. Sharma, Academic Consultant, CBSE will
take two sessions on Continuous and Comprehensive Evaluation (CCE).
The
objective of conducting this kind of teacher workshop is to give hands
on practical teaching skills in teaching English as a second language. 
Kalon
Tempa Tsering, Representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in New
Delhi, will be the chief guest on the closing function on 29 April. He
will address the participants and give away the certificates to the
participants. 
“The
workshop is made possible with generous funding assistance from PRM
(USA). We are thankful to the CTSA in providing lecture hall and
accommodation and other necessary assistance during the entire
workshop,” the education department said in a statement.
Education Officer Tsering Phuntsok and Under Secretary Kalsang Rinchen are coordinating the whole programme.
