First TGT Teachers workshop on Teaching in Tibetan language Underway[Tuesday, 2 November 2010, 5:00 p.m.]

Dharamshala: Department of Education (DOE) is giving a TGT teachers’ workshop on methods of teaching in Tibetan language to 15 Sambhota Tibetan School teachers at Central School for Tibetan Poanta in Poanta Sahib, Himachal Pradesh, from 29 October to 12 November 2010. The resource persons in the workshop are Mr Pema Gyaltsen, science teacher of Dolanji school, Mr Gyaltsen, Education officer, DOE, Mr Tenzin Dorjee, mathematics teacher of CST Poanta, Mr Sonam Sangpo and Mr Budha Kyap, Editors of DOE text books, Mr Tashi Dhondup, Additional Secretary, DOE, Mr Druk Tsering, Principal, TCV Selakui, Mr Karma Sherab, social science teacher, TCV Selakui and Ven Sonam Dhondup of CST Poanta. Resource persons will teach methods of teaching science, social science and mathematics in Tibetan language. Ven Sonam Dhondup, a religious teacher, will teach the teachers on how to applytraditional debating style of learning Buddhist philosophy in other subjects.Experts on education from Australia, Mr Eric Frangen Heim, Ms Margaret Elsie Bishop and Ms Kerry Anne Wright, will teach new methods of teaching for two days during the workshop.Mr Tsering Samdup, Education Officer of DOE, on the starting day of the workshop addressed the participant teachers. “ This workshop is not only one of the most important part of implementation of Basic Education Policy, but by taking example of the Tibetan students’ effort in preserving Tibetan language in Tibet teachers should be fully responsible to put their efforts in teaching all the subjects in Tibetan,” he said.Mr Wangdue Tsering, Puruwala Tibetan Settlement officer, was the chief guest on opening day of the workshop. Mr Wangdu Tsering remarked that the workshop is an important endeavour to preserve the rich Tibetan language by teaching all the subjects in Tibetan. He also said that the working of a teacher is one of the most blessing work among other important workings of the exile community.Besides, Mr Karma Chungdak, Director of Sambhota Tibetan Schools will discuss and guide the the participant teachers in teaching in Tibetan medium of instruction in all the Sambota Tibetan Schools on the last day of the workshop.
