Tibetan Elections: Voting in North America[Monday, 3 October 2010, 12:59 p.m.]

Dharamshala:
As Tibetans in exile went into first round of elections of Kalon Tripa
and Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile on Sunday, 3 October, Tibetans residing
in the US came in droves to cast their votes.According to the
office of Tibet in New York, voters in New York and New Jersey cast
their ballots at a polling booth set up in a building near the office
of Tibet in New York from 9 am – 6 pm.There are 5,904 eligible voters in 30 regions across North America.Out of total 1,468 registered voters in New York and New Jersey, around 1,100 voted in the preliminary round of elections.Except
New York and New Jersey, sealed ballot boxes from other regions are due
to arrive at the regional election commission cum office of Tibet in
New York on 5 October.The counting of votes will take place on
6 October, following which the regional election commission will send
the aggregation of voting results to the election commission in
Dharamsala.
