Tibetan Parliament Approves Bill to Increase MPs from North America[Thursday, 9 September 2010, 10:31 a.m.]

A Bill to increase in the number of parliament members from North
America was unanimously passed in the ongoing tenth session of the
Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile.Under the new legislation, the number of Tibetan MPs from America and Canada has been increased to from one to two.Mr
Tenzin Choeden, MP from North America, sought a new amendment for two
separate constituencies in North America. Presenting the proposal, Mr
Choeden said separate constituencies in North America is necessitated
on account of a large population over 30,000 residing in around 30
communities scattered across North America. It will help the general
public to meet and question the representatives elected from their own
constituencies, he added.The proposal failed to get the required two-third majority as it was opposed by 4 members and supported by 24.
