Students from Indian and Tibetan Schools gather for 9th Inter School Programme at GopalpurWednesday, 22 July 2009, 2:51 p.m.

Dharamshala: The New Delhi-based Foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama is organising the ‘Ninth Inter school Programme 2009’ in collaboration with SOS Tibetan Children’s Village (TCV) at Gopalpur near Dharamsala in northern India, from 26 July – 1 August.The eighth inter school programme was also hosted at TCV school Gopalpur in 2008.A total of 48 schoolchildren with 16 escort teachers from 16 different schools which includes both Tibetan and Indian School from Himachal Pradesh and Delhi are participating in the upcoming programme, said Thupten Tsewang, Programme Manager of the foundation.The foundation aims to engage young school children to cultivate insights, respect for pluralism, sensitizing people to different faiths and generate a dialogue to create a greater understanding of the needs of individuals and groups, he said.The week-long event includes lectures, discussions, debates, skit plays, workshops and meditation. The participants will visit various religious centers and take part in cultural programmes, film screenings and many other events.The foundation is also set to organise similar programmes at Tibetan Homes Foundation, Mussorie from 22- 28 September and at TCV school at Bylakuppe in south Indian state of Karnataka from 11 – 17 October.The Foundation for Universal Responsibility of His Holiness the Dalai Lama is a not for profit, non-sectarian, non-denominational organization established with the conferment of Nobel Peace Prize to His Holiness in 1989.  In the spirit of the Charter of the United Nations, the Foundation brings together men and women of different faiths, professions and nationalities, through a range of initiatives and mutually sustaining collaborations.
