October 7, 2008
Since March 2008, Tibetans inside Tibet have undertaken numerous forceful and historically significant peaceful demonstrations for their freedom, human rights and for the protection of Tibetan religion and culture. Simultaneously to express our solidarity with those peaceful demonstrations and also for those who are presently suffering under Chinese repression the Tibetan Solidarity Committee comprising of both Kashag and the Tibetan Parliament-in-Exile was formed. Under its leadership a number of programs in exile, both at the local and at the international level were carried out.
Unfortunately, due to lack of initiative and cooperation from the leadership of the Peoples’ Republic of China, the basic demand of the Tibetan Solidarity Committee are not yet fulfilled. As the situation inside Tibet is still tense and serious, during the Conclave of Tibetan Parliamentarians and the internal meeting of the members during the 6th session, the need to continue the work of the Tibetan Solidarity Committee was reiterated.
Under the guidance of the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker of the Parliament the members of the Political Section of the Standing Committee will carry the work of the said committee forward at the center but the committees and its members at the regional level will remain the same.
