Tibetans in South Africa celebrate US Gold Medal award

Pretoria: More than 60 people, including resident Tibetans, supporters and friends of Tibet in South Africa, dressed in the traditional costumes gathered at the main Buddhist Centre in Pretoria on Sunday, 28 October to celebrate the conferment of US top gold medal to His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
The event was jointly organised by the Office of Tibet, Pretoria and the Lam Rim Buddhist Centre in Johannesburg.
The program began with the Tibetan customary tradition of Sangsol (incense-burning ceremony) and offering of prayers for the long-life of His Holiness the Dalai Lama.
This was followed by singing of the Tibetan national anthem and screening of His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s acceptance speech at the award ceremony held on 17 October.
Adding delight to the occasion, many native South African boys and girls presented a colorful cultural songs and dances on the festive celebration. A vegetarian luncheon was also hosted to the participants present on the occasion.
