Dharamshala: A Tibetan based in Sydney has created history by becoming the first Tibetan to receive the “Medal of the Order of Australia” in the Queens birthday honours list.

Namgyal Tsering has been the president of the Australian Tibetan Society since 1975. He was also the president of Tibetan Community Association between 1994-97.

He is also a member of the Australian Working Group of the International Commission of Jurists Tibet Committee and a former senior manager with Cannon Australia Pty Ltd.

Namgyal Tsering’s accomplishment is a matter of great pride for Tibetans across the globe, said T. P. Atisha, the representative of His Holiness the Dalai Lama in Australia.

The award is in recognition of his years of services to the well being of Tibetan refugees and in creating awareness about Tibet.
