Dharamshala (TibetNet): The Department of Information and International Relations (DIIR) of the Central Tibetan Administration (CTA) has published a book titled Tibet and The Tibetan People’s Struggle, which contains 10th March statements of His Holiness the Dalai Lama from 1961 until 2005.
10th March 1959 marks an important chapter in the history of Tibet because on that day, the Tibetan people rose in spontaneous peaceful uprising against Chinese rule. Ever since then, Tibetans across the globe remember that fateful event as the Tibetan Uprising Day.
“While we dedicate this book to His Holiness the Dalai Lama on his 70th birthday celebration, it is hoped that this will serve as a valuable resource for all those people who are interested in, and those who support, the rightful struggle of six million Tibetan people for greater freedoms in Tibet”, said Kalon for the DIIR Lobsang Nyandak Zayul.
This book provides information on His Holiness the Dalai Lama’s persistent efforts in introducing democracy into the political life of the Tibetan Diaspora, beginning with the establishment of the Assembly of Tibetan People’s Deputies in 1960, through its enlarged composition in 1991, and to the direct election of the Kalon Tripa in 2001.
The English version of this book containing 166 pages is available at rupees 28 each and the Tibetan version containing 288 pages at rupees 45 each. The English edition of the book is already uploaded in the official website (tibet.net) of the CTA.
