Dharamshala (TibetNet): Research and policy unit of the Finance Department of the Central Tibetan Administration, is planning to organise an entrepreneurship awareness campaign and to hold a focused group meeting with the Tibetan people in South India in May-June 2006.

The purpose of these programmes is to motivate Tibetan people to take up sustainable ventures and to make them aware of the myriad business opportunities in their area, rather than relying only on sweater selling business, which is becoming less profitable and more risky.

As a part of this plan, Choesang Tendhar, spokesperson of the Finance Department, visited Mysore and Dharward, Karanataka State in south India from 8 to 30 January 2006. According to him, he met the officials of the District Industries Centre, who look after entire industrial activities in Mysore district and obtained useful information about business opportunities in the state.

While in Dharward, he met director and senior resource person of the Centre for Entrepreneurship Development of Karnataka (CEDOK), and discussed entrepreneurship training requirements.

He said the meetings at both places went well and he got positive response from them. He hopes that the Finance Department could take their help and endeavour to promote trade and commerce within exile community.
