Dharamsala, 5 September 2003: The Kalon Tripa said that through the well-set policy of middle path of His Holiness the Dalai Lama, he is hopeful of a negotiation with the Beijing leadership in a reasonable timeframe.
Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche was speaking at a press conference called by the 12th Kashag marking the Kalon Tripa’s day of oath taking two years ago. Prof. Samdhong Rinpoche and his three Kalons read out the statements in Tibetan which were also available in English for the non Tibetan media. The other Kalons spoke about their Departments’ activities and plan of action.
In his introductory remark, the Kalon Tripa said that he chose this day in 2001 as his oath taking day after he became the first directly elected Kalon Tripa of the Central Tibetan Administration because he wanted to keep alive the identity of a teacher in him.
Reiterating his view on the Sino Indian ties and its affects on Tibet, the Kalon Tripa pointed out that the issue of Tibet has a brighter chance of resolution if the relationship between New Delhi and Beijing is improved.
Prof. Rinpoche said His Holiness the Dalai Lama had advised him to work towards introducing as many changes and reforms in the Tibetan communities as possible, and that he has tried to bring every positive change in both political and administrative spheres.

The Kalon Tripa also said that Tibet issue has received a strong support from the international community and that the Kashag has given, after direct contacts with the People’s Republic of China, a very clear guideline to Tibet supporters to channelise the international support into creating a conducive and congenial atmosphere for dialogue with the leadership in Beijing.
